Throughout four generations of family ownership, East Bay Tire has pioneered new markets and tackled challenges to become one of the most regionally dominant tire service providers in the United States.
Today, our legacy of entrepreneurship lives on as we develop new ways to serve our customers, while never losing sight of those who came before us.
1944
Joe Fuetsch manages Firestone location in Reno.
1946
After spending the first part of his career as a banker and retail manager for Firestone, Joseph Fuetsch forms East Bay Tire in Oakland, CA at the age of 46 with the sole purpose of selling casings, retreaded tires and new tires by way of ration stamps.
1946-1981
Over the course of several decades, Joseph Fuetsch and son-in-law, Joseph Pehanick, Sr., establish solid relationships with Toyo, Bridgestone, Yokohama, Ohtsu, Samyang aka Kumho and other reputable tire manufacturers.
1958
Established as one of the first Bridgestone dealers in the United States of America.
1959
Joseph Pehanick Sr joins East Bay Tire.
1966
East Bay Tire expands adding new location in Oakland, CA.
1973
Established as Alliance dealer, which eventually became ATG (Alliance Tire Group) and now Yokohama OHT (Off Highway Tires).
1981
Joseph Fuetsch’s grandson, George Pehanick, joins the family business. Under his direction, East Bay Tire begins selling new tires to customers in the farm, agricultural, and earthmoving markets.
1986
Established as a Continental dealer.
1991
East Bay Tire is signed by Goodyear, their largest tire manufacturing vendor to date, and expands beyond central California into Hawaii.
1992
Joseph Michael Pehanick, son of Joseph Sr., grandson of founder Joseph Fuetsch, joins East Bay Tire.
1993
By the early 1990s, East Bay Tire is selling used and retread casings, new tires of all types, and operates four warehouses in Oakland, CA.
1994
East Bay Tire purchases a vacant 400k square foot warehouse in Fairfield, CA (originally built by Michelin) to consolidate inventory and serve as the main hub of operations.
1995
With a growing customer base in Hawaii, East Bay Tire opens a permanent distribution center in Honolulu, managed by Dave Williams.
1996
George Pehanick acquires East Bay Tire as majority owner of the company, and begins growing its service and wholesale locations throughout Northern California and Hawaii.
1998
Established as Michelin dealer.
2000
East Bay Tire purchases Frank’s Tire in Fairfield, CA and establishes first service center.
2003
Recognizing a market opportunity in California’s Central Valley region, Fresno distribution and and service center opens. The construction of the west coast’s largest service center starts and is completed by 2008.
2003
Benicia Service Center founded.
2005
2007
Established Sacramento Service Center, taking over Michelin subsidiary, TCI (Tire Centers Inc).
2009
Joseph Jamie Pehanick, great-grandson of the founder and 4th generation, joins East Bay Tire.
2013
Established San Jose Service Center.
2014
Kona and Hilo locations established by acquiring long-time customer R&G Tire.
2014
Stockton Service Center founded.
2015
Salinas Service Center established by acquiring long-time customer, Lamar Bros. Tire Service.
2016
East Bay Tire wins the first ever California state contract, which has since been renewed multiple times.
2017
East Bay Tire establishes a full-time service center in Yuma, Arizona.
2017
East Bay Tire grows service footprint in Hawaii, adding new location on Maui.
2018
East Bay Tire starts Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) division.
2018
East Bay Tire emerges as one of the largest commercial dealers in the country.
2020
East Bay Tire becomes essential service provider for California, Arizona and Hawaii during Covid pandemic.
2022
East Bay Tire opens its San Rafael Service Center, acquiring long-time customer Brandon Tire Supply, bringing the company’s location total to 14.
